A New Talent on the Market: Muriel Ferneini

On the 27th of May 2016, during the Beirut Design Week, the youthful Muriel Ferneini performed some well-beloved Classical Rock pieces.

Her repertoire consisted of:

• Somersault – 07
• Cryin’ – Aerosmith
• People Are Strange – The Doors
• Crystallized – XX
• Sweet Dreams – Eurythmics
• Mad World – Gary Jules

With a three-octave vocal range; this blooming talent portrayed a good technique mixed with an imposing voice that made the whole audience quiet as she chanted her tunes.

One of the songs that stood out to me was her version of Cryin’ for the Hard Rock band Aerosmith, written by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Taylor Rhodes. Ferneini’s rendition had a touch of lounginess to it which was a tailor-made hit to her smoky timbre.

Her gentle transition from the Bridge to the Chorus “I was cryin’ when I met you, now I’m tryin’ to forget you, your love is sweet misery” was wholesome and touched every aspect of emotions in the audience.

Another song that was a hit was People Are Strange for The Doors. Released in 1967, this Psychedelic Rock hit was written by Jim Morrison and Robby Kreiger. Quite a monotonous song whether it may be in its lyrics or melody; Muriel was able to elevate that wearisome piece to a soul stimulating rhythm.

Hopefully, we will hear a lot more of her; with that Bohemian look merged with a humble and alluring personality; this young talent’s name will be on the lips of many generations to come.
