Feng Shui Your Home with these Tips
Feng (wind) is the air and the field energy, while Shui (water) means flow and change. Feng Shui is a theory studying the micro materials (air, water, and soil) and the macro environment (heaven and earth) which are vital to human survival and development. The essence of Feng Shui is the harmony between humans and nature.
Building or Buying a House

- Your new house should not be located on a cliff-side, at a river outlet, next to the highway or a T-road intersection.
- A place that has had accidents should be avoided.
- The most favorable house direction is South-facing, which is good for light, Qi absorption and family harmony.
- The house should be leaning against something behind (building, peak...) and the front should be open and bright.
- There shouldn't be a hospital, temple or graveyard surrounding the house.
- Lamp poles, wire poles...should be avoided in front of your gate.
- The house should be square, regular, symmetrical and flat.
- The house should not have a big tree in front because it blocks the sunshine and absorbs Yang which cannot enter into the house, making the house have too much Yin. If you need a big tree, you can plant it in the northwest of the house to protect your family. However, you should remember that never cut down the tree in this direction.
- The house should not have a dead tree in front, even if it is not big, because a dead tree is harmful to the aged in terms of Feng Shui and it should be eradicated.
Bedroom

- It should not be too large. The human body is an energy body which distributes energy to the outside all the time, just like the working air conditioning, thus the bigger the floor area is, the more energy it consumes. Therefore, if the bedroom is too large, your body immunity declines due to excessive energy consumption and you will be in low spirit, poor judgment or even get ill, unfortunately.
- It should not be too small. Living in a too-small bedroom will make you feel depressed.
- Should be in a squared layout.
- The location should be facing the sun.
- Forget about a balcony or floor to ceiling windows. A bedroom with a balcony or floor-to-ceiling window increases the energy consumption in sleeping, so you may feel tired or lose sleep since the glass structure is unable to preserve body heat, which is the same as the fact that you may easily get ill if you sleep in the open air. The bedroom without a balcony or floor-to-ceiling window is suggested or the balcony and the floor-to-ceiling window should be equipped with the thick curtain.
- It should be bright in the daytime and dim at night. The bedroom should have a window for ventilation, which can make you refreshed in the daytime; at night, the window must be covered with the curtain to block the outdoor night lights, so that you can fall asleep easily.
- Should not face the entrance door. A bedroom is a place of rest, it must be quiet and private.
- Should not be facing the bathroom.
- Should not be next to or facing the kitchen directly.
- Should not be facing a mirror. The mirror can reflect and it can reflect the evil spirit out in terms of Feng Shui. If the mirror faces the bedroom door, it will reflect the evil spirit into the bedroom and lead to bad luck.
- No mirror should be shining the bed. The bedroom should not have a mirror or reflective object which directly shines the bed, including the TV fluorescent screen, or you will easily have illusions, fall into a flutter or cannot sleep peacefully.
- Fewer appliances, the better. The bedroom with too many electric appliances is called the fire room in terms of Feng Shui, which is harmful to body health. As for the T.V, it should definitely not be facing the bed.
Living Room

- The living room shall be sunny and bright. The bright living room will bring prosperous family luck to the family. The dark colors should be avoided in the decoration of the living room, or it will bring bad luck to the family.
- Should be visible as soon as entering the door. According to Feng Shui knowledge, if the living room is behind the bedroom or kitchen, your life will have no privacy, leading to digression and mistakes in work or business.
- It should be in the Center of the House.
- The layout should be rectangular or square-shaped.
- Furniture Placement. According to Feng Shui knowledge, the storage cabinet in the living room should cling to the wall and the sofa shall face the door or TV, and never back the door.

- It should be decorated with circular-shaped decorations since the living room is a family and friends gathering place requiring a lively and harmonious atmosphere. The circle is a symbol of Yang and it is dynamic, so the circular-shaped lighting, ceiling, and decorations can create a warm and lively atmosphere that you are seeking.
- Avoid sharp objects, such as knives and swords, firearms and animal specimens, and do not hang them on the wall because they will produce Yin and lead to quarrels or violence.
- Do not fill your living room with antiques, for your family health will be influenced, leading to blocked Qi-blood, poor health, and even strange things.
Dining Room

- It should be located in the south of the house with abundant light. In addition, the south belongs to the element of fire, which is related to making the family prosperous.
- Should not be located in the kitchen because the lampblack and heat in the kitchen will make it moist, thus you cannot enjoy the dinner happily inside.
- The dining room and the kitchen should be adjacent to each other rather than too distant.
- The dining table should not face the entrance, kitchen or bathroom doors directly.
- The dining room should not be located under a bathroom.
- Should not face a road directly.
- In terms of Feng Shui, the sharp corner stands for an evil spirit, so if you are going to choose a square or rectangle table, the corner must be slightly round to avoid hurting the family's health. The best solution is choosing a round or oval dining table.
- The lighting should be directly on top and in the center of the table.
- The dining room should not have too much decoration, or it may affect the appetite.
- Yellow is a color that can stimulate your appetite, so a dining room with yellow lighting will create a warm environment and deepen the emotional contact of the family.
Kitchen

- The kitchen is the most accident-prone place in the whole house, so bright light is the first requirement.
- East, southeast, northwest, northeast, and north are the auspicious directions for the kitchen.
- West is neither good nor bad. South and southwest are the ominous directions.
- In pursuit of fashion or more space, many people tend to choose the design of an open kitchen. Actually, the open kitchen with exposed cooking range weakens the ability of wealth accumulation; so try to avoid this design as much as you can.
- To save space and facilitate design, some people seal the bathroom door adjacent to the kitchen and open a door in the kitchen as a route to the bathroom, so they have to pass the kitchen if they want to use the bathroom. Actually, the kitchen belongs to the element of fire while the bathroom belongs to the element of water; when they are connected, the restriction between fire and water is formed.
- The kitchen belongs to the fire. If it is located in the center of the house, the family health will be affected easily since there is a fire in the "heart".
- The refrigerator should not be empty.
- The sink should have a window in front so that you can wash and enjoy the scenery outside the window to relieve the boring cleaning work and ventilate the kitchen air.
- The light and bright warm colors, such as white and green, should be applied to the kitchen to create a relaxing environment.
Bathroom

- A house should have very few bathrooms.
- The bathroom should not be seen as soon as entering the house. The bathroom door should not face the entrance door directly.
- The bathroom door should not face the kitchen door directly.
- The bathroom should not face the dining room directly.
- The bathroom door should not face the bedroom directly, or it will be harmful to the health of you living in the bedroom. The solution is blocking it with the green plants.
- It should not face the bed directly or your head when sleeping.
- It should not be located in the center of the house.
- Should not be too close to the entrance door, or it will easily make you suffer unexpected personal financial losses or make your family members quarrel frequently.
- If the bathroom has no window, it should not be located at the end of the interior corridor.
- The bedroom should avoid having a bathroom; if it cannot be avoided, the bathroom should be well ventilated.
- The partition wall between the bathroom and other rooms should not be in glass.
- The bathroom door should not face your altar or religious figure picture or statue in your home.
- The toilet seat and the mirror should not face the bathroom door directly.
- The toilet seat and the mirror should not face each other directly. A toilet seat is a place of discharging filth and you really don't need to look in the mirror when using it.
- Must have a window that is normally open to ventilate and avoid being too dark. If the bathroom has no window, you can put green plants or an incense burner inside.
- It should not be moist. In terms of Feng Shui, the bathroom must be clean and dry; the floor should not have water and the toilet seat must be cleaned regularly.
- Dark colors should be avoided in the bathroom decoration since the bathroom is a place full of Yin and lacking Yang. Therefore, you shouldn't use grey, black and blue tiles; you can use though orange, yellow, and red.
Garden

- A garden should have water. Water is highly regarded in Feng Shui (well it is the elixir of life) and it has the effect of generating prosperity. It is better to design the garden near the water, such as at the bend of a river or lake. Generally, the garden should have a square or round fountain, pond or swimming pool. Building a little pond in the garden to breed fish is a good choice.
- It is said that a garden with a fence can resist the invasion of evil spirits and make the family prosperous and lucky.
- A garden should be square-shaped rather than triangle, trapezoid or concave-convex.
- It is common to see all kinds of statues in gardens. The Yi-ology principles should be applied in sculpture planning. For example, putting a horse sculpture in the water is inappropriate because the horse belongs to the element of fire, so putting it in water will lead to the water extinguishing the fire, thus bringing a series of side effects. Make sure you do pay attention to the five elements and sculptures that are connected to these elements.
- Avoid the over-paving of pebbles.
- Don't forget to add some wind-chimes!
